The «international varieties» reached Albarola in the second half of the nineteenth century. This led the estate to a clonal selection of small vineyards of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the oldest of which are now sixty years old. Hence the decision to produce, only in the finest vintages, a wine from one or more of these plots: the 2016 vintage, for example, is pure Cabernet Franc.

Vinification involves a maceration of around fifteen days, followed by twenty-four months in small oak barrels. The further refinement in bottle, never shorter than a year, is essential.

Vines planted in 1962

The Cabernet Sauvignon «in Albarola since 1796» is born in this vineyard planted in 1962, where the vine trunks have grown to a remarkable size. A red grape for a still, barrique-aged red: the fruit is handled with a long evolutionary path in mind, built on structure, refinement and longevity, first in wood and then in bottle.
