The Grapes

Alongside the signature grapes of the Colli Piacentini live international varieties that arrived in the nineteenth century: a heritage built over more than two centuries.

The Heritage

Six families of grapes,
one identity

The ampelographic wealth of the Barattieri vineyards is the result of more than two centuries in which tradition and innovation intertwined. Alongside the historic varieties of the territory live international grapes introduced by the family as early as the nineteenth century, now perfectly at home in Albarola.

Each variety tells a part of the story of the family and the land: some are rooted in the tradition of the Colli Piacentini, others are the fruit of intuitions dating back two centuries. Together they form a unique heritage, which the winery preserves by valuing every vineyard in respect of its history and natural vocation.

  1. Ortrugo

One of the signature varieties of the Colli Piacentini: a generous vine with large bunches and early ripening. It gives wonderfully drinkable wines, fresh, balanced and mineral, authentically of this land.

  2. Sauvignon Blanc

It arrived, according to family tradition, with the honeymoon of Alberico and Maria Trevani. Over two centuries it has adapted to the territory into the PC10 biotype, preserved through massal selection: a Mediterranean style with structure, breadth and surprising longevity.

  3. Barbera and Croatina

The heart of the Piacenza tradition: Barbera brings acidity, freshness and minerality; Croatina, known here as Bonarda, brings colour, concentration and tannic weave. From their balance Gutturnio is born.

  4. The two Cabernets

Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are a historic presence. In the Vigna Grande, an old mixed vineyard, they have prevailed for over a century, on soil that has seen no deep ploughing for just as long.

  5. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

The most recent part of the story: planted in the 1980s, they give high-quality sparkling bases. From here comes the Anna Maria Schroeder Classic Method, dry, vertical and complex.

  6. Malvasia di Candia Aromatica

The most precious variety of the house: aromatic, noble and rich in polyphenols, able to evolve for decades. It is the mother of the still Malvasia, the sparklings and, above all, the Vin Santo.
