The historic casks of the Barattieri Vin Santo cellar, some dating back to the eighteenth century
Colli Piacentini Vin Santo D.O.C. · In production since 1824

Vin Santo «Albarola Val di Nure»

One of the most historic wines of the Colli Piacentini: ten years of patience, a mother wine kept since 1824, and a story that begins as a gift.

The History

A gift,
before being a wine

For generations, the Barattieri Vin Santo could not be bought. It was the gift the family reserved at the end of each year for its finest clients and dearest friends: a few bottles, never for everyone, handed over the way one shares a confidence.

Only in the late 1980s did it officially go on sale, without changing a single detail of how it is made. In uninterrupted production since 1824, it is one of the most historic wines of the Colli Piacentini: a family legacy handed down through generations, faithfully and without any modification.

The Ritual

A year of gestures,
ten of silence

  1. September

Only the finest bunches of Malvasia di Candia Aromatica are chosen by the expert hands of our long-serving harvesters.

  2. Two or three months

The bunches, laid one by one on racks, slowly lose water while sugars and aromas concentrate, drying in naturally ventilated rooms under the roofs of the estate.

  3. December

The dried grapes put up a natural resistance: the pressing, hydraulic today yet faithful to the principle of the old manual presses, is slow and intense, and releases an extraordinarily rich must.

  4. The casks

The must enters the small casks, some still from the eighteenth century: there it ferments and ages for ten years in the same wood, never racked, kept by the memory of two centuries of harvests.

  5. The wait

After ten years the wine is drawn off: the 2016 vintage is released in 2026. At the bottom rests the mother wine, dense and never removed since 1824: the new harvest is grafted onto it, and the story never stops.
