A choice
of openness
For over fifteen years Villa Barattieri has been opening its doors to the public. For generations the estate was known above all to those who came to buy wine; at a certain point the family chose to make the spaces of the historic residence accessible too, allowing guests to live the villa for a private event.
It is a choice with a broader meaning: for a historic residence to stay alive, it must engage with the present. Hospitality and events are today also a way of valuing the heritage, contributing to its upkeep, its vitality and its handover to future generations.
What began as a wish to make the spaces available has become a structured activity: the family directly follows the design and organisation of each event, working with the client on an experience as personalised as possible. There is no single model: every occasion is built around the nature of the villa and the needs of its guests.
A journey
of gardens and halls
The exteriors unfold on two levels: the garden in front of the villa and the garden of the statues, joined by the middle garden in a C-shaped layout that allows different areas to be used within the same event. To these is added the inner courtyard, connected to the portico: the natural hinge between outdoors and the halls, precious for summer events.
Guests move from lawn to courtyard, from courtyard to portico and from portico to the halls without ever breaking the experience. On the ground floor several rooms open directly onto the portico; on the piano nobile the gallery, linked to a sequence of communicating rooms, can host about 90 people.
Altogether the interiors can welcome about 250 guests, and the outdoor spaces over 300. This capacity is not the result of a conversion: the villa was never designed for events, and it is precisely its nature as a home, with surprisingly functional spaces and routes, that makes it special. It is not hired out: it is lived.
